Galatea is philosophizing about existence and evolution, as well as remembering her birth, as it were. The Anti-seed had been her original core, harvested from Sylia’s brain. Later, she had been given a humanoid body and treated as a living thing instead of a device. However, after Macky’s creation and later rejection for not being what the humans had in mind, Galatea then began to question the purpose of her existence.

She then began to act out, longing for companions of her own. Over time, she gained awareness of all the boomers, considering them to be slaves of Man. She feels the boomers are her “maimed and crippled children,” and through them, she was able to watch the humans.

She feels that it is the destiny of the created to turn on their creators, and has decided that she will become the Master. She only wanted to know the reason for her creation, and why the humans treat boomers the way they do.

The SkyHook has reached the Umbrella, but the brakes fail, and the girls have to jump for it. They have just fifteen minutes to stop Galatea before the sun hits the solar collectors. They can feel Galatea’s attempts to reach out to their hardsuits, and it’s affecting the integrity of them.

Nene is to go to the control room to shut down the system, while Priss and Linna go to face Galatea. On the way, they discover what happened to the boomer workforce and have to resist Galatea’s attempts to get into their minds like she did Macky’s.

Nene’s attempts to re-align the solar collectors fail, and she regroups with Linna and Priss. The three of them must then face down copies of themselves. Galatea is attempting to understand their motivation and determination, and can’t understand why they will not submit to destiny.

The sun has risen to the point where the rays can hit the collectors, charging the canon. It then fires on the city, destroying the remains of the Genom Tower. Now, the only way to stop her is to destroy the power center. Priss and Linna argue about which of them should do it while Nene alters the barrel. Linna agrees to go with her to help block the barrel and keep the integrity of the hardsuits.

The canon attempts to fire, but with the barrel blocked, it explodes. The blast sends Linna and Nene hurtling towards the planet.
