Soldier Blue Summary
“The mysterious flowers from an anonymous person that arrived for Sylia. And who is this other Sylia that has arrived with the mysterious fragrance and the various hallucinations?”
Sylia is working in her shop on a stormy day when Macky brings in some flowers for her. Macky teases her a bit about having a secret admirer, which she denies. Deepening the mystery is the fact that neither sibling recognizes the kind of flowers. Although she has never seen them before, Sylia finds their fragrance to be familiar. It began to bring buried memories to the surface, which began to bring a weariness to Sylia’s heart.
With the unbidden rise of memories, a dark part of Sylia began to come about. She felt angry and was determined to get to the bottom of things. She went to her father’s home, where some of his research and equipment remained safe from Mason. Her plan was to use his Hyper Recall Machine to search her memories and defeat her inner demons.
Inside her mind, she began to seek out Reishi, the other answering her. Already agitated, Sylia’s retort only seemed to provoke Reishi and it lashed out at her as an energy bolt that turned into a sword. Sylia then took up the sword and demanded Reishi show itself. Many reflections of Sylia appeared before coalescing into a single image and lunging at Sylia. Sylia then succeeded in disarming Reishi and then stabbed her. Reishi screamed, her voice turning into that of a man. The voice of a man that Sylia recognized. When Sylia refused to side with him, the mirror’s shattered and she began to fall into the white nothingness until she was called back by Macky. When she opened her eyes, she was met by Macky and Linna.
After the rain, Leon was out with Priss, standing along the highway. He wasn’t sure why he was there when it seemed like she wanted to be alone. After a moment, he realized the significance of the place and that Priss was mourning. He asked her if this was a special place, and she told him that she was saying goodbye to the past in order to move forward into the future. They both then began to feel relief.
Sylia was out of sorts, the city feeling wrong to her. She thought she was being followed and began to run and was immediately relieved when an ADP patrol car appeared. Going up to the window, she was happy to see Leon but was then frightened again when he pulled a gun on her. She then awoke with a start, having been dreaming.
She got up to get a drink and heard voices in her living room. Familiar voices. Going to investigate, she found Macky, the other girls, and herself. She immediately began to question her other self, being told that only one of them needs to exist in the world. Sylia almost feints then, Priss and Linna support her. Reishi then tells Macky to stab her with a knife, which he willingly goes to do. Sylia then woke from the dream within a dream.
Nene and Macky are at the airport, saying goodbye. Macky was going to Germany to study advancements in boomer and hard-suit technology. Nene wasn’t happy with his decision. Unable to properly voice her feelings, Nene shoves a gift into his hands before wishing him well. Priss and Linna then begin to tease her about her sadness and tears. As for Sylia, she knew the Knight Sabers would soon face new challenges from old foes, and she was determined to face them head-on.
