Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 Nene Romanova

2040 nene

Born: 2022

Age: 18

Height: 5 feet, 2 inches (155 cm)

Occupation: AD Police officer, specifically Information/Dispatch center

Description

Nene works as a computer operator and Video expert within the ADP’s Intelligence Management Center. As such, she takes emergency calls, tracks on-duty officers, manages case files, and unofficially defends the ADP’s mainframe against hackers. Nene is a skilled hacker and knows just about everything there is to know about hacking and anti-hack procedures. She has a number of programs at her disposal, ranging from various viruses and worms to spy programs.

Nene is also a fairly adept programmer, having written a number of virus programs herself as well as two, more fun and — legal — programs. The first is the Nene-gram, a program that delivers a recorded message to the recipient. While the message is playing, a Chibi version of her head complete with a pair of white gloves for hands portrays various facial expressions and hand gestures throughout the message.

The second program is Uprio-chan. Uprio-chan only works on her desktop and appears to be modeled after the stuffed weasel she keeps at her ADP Terminal. It’s the job of Uprio-chan to literally drag any unused windows off the screen. Most likely, Uprio-chan was designed to remove any open email and browser windows so as to keep Nene out of trouble at work.

Personality

Nene is cheerful and candid, and in some respects, still very much a child. She will whine, she will pout, and she will call people names (“Leon-poo”, “Leon the Peon”, “Leo-Peo” for example). She doesn’t like to be nagged about her junk food habits, i.e. body mass/fat, but still pigs out. She plays video games at work and also picks on Leon whenever she gets the chance.

Her skills with computers and hacking seem to come to her almost naturally, giving her a fair amount of self-confidence. (“Romanova, girl genius, strikes again.”) She had wanted to be an astronaut and had all of the skills necessary for the program. Unfortunately, she failed to meet the minimum height requirement.

Nene lacks experience when it comes to boys and dating compared to the other Knight Sabers. When she and Macky first met, they weren’t much beyond squabbling children and all because he had walked into the changing room by mistake. Eventually, they “matured” and began to feel a romantic interest in the other.

History

Nene and Sylia first crossed paths as they were both hacking into Genom. In return for showing her various routes to access their servers, Sylia offered Nene a position in the Knight Sabers. Nene took the part of Priss’ back-up as well as the responsibilities of covering their tracks while in the field.

When Linna joined, she began to take note of her inadequacies. She began to take risks that almost got her killed. It wasn’t until a bet that took place between Sylia and Priss that Nene realized she was still important to the team for techniques other than physical combat.

In the events leading up to Galatea, Nene learned a huge secret about Sylia’s family and confronted her about it in front of the team. She then stormed out, needing some time to herself. When she cooled off, she and the others realized too late that Sylia had been planning to go after Galatea on her own. In the process of helping Sylia, their hardsuits were destroyed and Macky was almost lost. Nene then had to search her feelings to know how she truly felt about Macky — was he a ‘machine’, or was he ‘real’?

When Galatea took over the ADP Tower, Nene was one of the unlucky few trapped inside. She tried to help the other officers find weaponry and to get a distress message to the outside before being forced to escape her station. In the process of trying to escape the tower, they learned that the boomers had been trying to get to the communications tower to take it over and spread the Phenomena. They succeeded in stopping it this time but continued to push the completion of new suits. Meanwhile, Nene, Leon, and Daley worked to inform the city about the rogue boomer phenomena and Genom’s involvement.

She had to sit on the sidelines while Linna took care of Galatea’s first attempt to use the Dragon Line to take over the city. Later, Sylia, Linna, and Nene tried to take care of another of Galatea’s creations, only to be in need of a rescue. When the girls went to the Genom tower, it was Nene who said they should push on when Macky gave the last of his power to break Galatea’s barrier. It was also Nene who prevented Sylia from being assimilated by Galatea and discovered that she was fusing with the tower as well.

Later, Nene and Linna proposed the idea of using the Sky-Hook to access the Umbrella and stop Galatea there. She and Linna then tried to stop the cannon from firing, only to be knocked flying towards Earth at a high rate of speed. Nene was able to use her knowledge of aerodynamics to get the two of them safely back on the planet.

Skills

Nene is very smart and skilled when it comes to the field of technology. (However, it did take her a while to realize that the hardsuits were modified boomers.) She’s a computer hacker with some impressive programming skills to boot. She is often asked by Leon to access data and files he or the ADP wouldn’t ordinarily have access to.

Hardsuit

Nene’s hardsuit is designed mostly for field support and intelligence rather than full-fledged combat. The pink and purple hardsuit is equipped with an electromagnetic rail-gun built into her right power-gauntlet, which fires three to four ‘rails’ (long needles that resemble porcupine quills) per volley. These rails hold no destructive power but have been able to momentarily stun smaller targets. (The rails may still carry some electromagnetic charge after having been fired.) Her suit also comes with a very powerful and very fast internal computer system and scanner array that enables her to perform any field intelligence operation tasked to her, whether that is hacking into a system to learn about a boomer, or blocking ADP transmissions. After a while, several functions of her hardsuit are later upgraded, which enables her to be a more effective fighter.

Her second generation hardsuit is less gangly looking than its predecessor. The rail gun has been upgraded, firing approximately five to six rails per volley. Her internal computer system has also been upgraded as well as ‘smart cables’ built into her left power-gauntlet. These cables allow her suit to interface directly with whatever system they’re plugged into.

Nene’s fighting style consists of shooting a rogue boomer in the face or torso with her rail-gun, giving Priss or Linna a chance to get into position. Seeing as that she lacks the physical skill and ability of the others, Nene must rely on her computer skills and equipment to locate, and sometimes create, weaknesses within the boomers. However, on one occasion, she was able to ‘save the day’ with just her rail-gun by taking advantage of a monster’s weakness. She is aggressive and determined to fight alongside the others.

Notes

Nene uses her position in the ADP to the advantage of the Knight Sabers, deleting or editing any files remotely pertaining to Sylia Stingray or the Knight Sabers. It was predominately the work of the ADP and Genom that prevented information about the Knight Sabers from becoming public knowledge.
